ICE is planning to spend up to $2 million on "robot dogs" manufactured by Boston Dynamics to support "law enforcement operations," according to a federal procurement notice. The announcement comes after ICE's decision earlier this month to purchase gloves that can deliver painful electric shocks.

Drop Site's Julian Andreone asked lawmakers on Capitol Hill what they think. Most condemned the move. A handful of representatives defended it, saying they support anything that helps expel undocumented immigrants. "We've got the right to get you out," said Texas Rep. Brandon Gill.

As of January 2026, more than 70,000 people were being held in ICE detention facilities — the highest detained population in U.S. history. More than one in three people deported from detention in 2025 had no criminal record.
